Most of us take our hair for granted, just like our health and youth, until it’s gone. A hair transplant can help many people get what looks like a full head of hair or at least a fuller head.
If losing your hair on top or going bald bothers you, this procedure could help you feel better about your appearance. Our experts and professionals here at Glo Esthetics will help you understand more about Hair Restoration (Transplant). But first, let’s talk about Hair Transplants and how it works.
Hair Transplant
A Hair Transplant is a type of surgery where the hair you already transferred to a place where there is little or no hair. Since the 1950s, doctors in the U.S. have been doing these transplants, but the ways they do them have changed a lot in recent years.
Most of the time, the procedure takes place in a doctor’s office. First, the doctor cleans your scalp and puts medicine into the back of your head to numb it. Your doctor will choose between follicular unit strip surgery (FUSS) and follicular unit extraction for the transplant (FUE).
In FUSS, a 6- to 10-inch strip of skin is cut off the back of your head by a doctor. They put it away and stitched the scalp shut. The hair around this area immediately hides it.
Next, the team working with the surgeon cuts the strip of scalp that was removed into 500 to 2,000 tiny grafts, each with one or a few hairs. How many and what kind of grafts you get depends on the type, quality, and color of your hair and the size of the area where the transplant is happening.
If you are getting the FUE procedure, the surgeon’s team will shave the back of your scalp. The doctor will then take out each hair follicle one by one. The wound will heal with tiny dots that your hair will cover.
After that, the steps for both are the same. After the grafts are ready, the surgeon cleans and numbs the area where the hair will go. Then, using a scalpel or needle, they make holes or slits and carefully put each graft in one of the holes.
The grafts will probably also be planted with help from other team members. Depending on your transplant size, the process can take anywhere from 4 to 8 hours. If you keep losing hair or want thicker hair in the future, you might need another procedure.
Hair Restoration at Glo Esthetics
At Glo Esthetics, we have a new treatment for the scalp that makes hair grow thicker and healthier. This treatment will clean, exfoliate, nourish, and hydrate the scalp to get hair follicles to start making new hair.
Several clinical studies have shown that thin hair can be caused by dry skin, clogged hair follicles, dull skin cells, and poor blood flow. Also, most patients said that their hair became less dry and thicker after just one treatment.
The first step of the Glo Keravive treatment is to clean your scalp. Then, technology is used to remove dirt, oil, and other impurities from your scalp and hair follicles. We’ll put on a Keravive Complex Solution, a mix of biomimetic growth factors and skin proteins that will help the scalp make more keratin and get more blood flow.
Restore the health of your scalp for the best hair growth. If you’re wondering what can this benefit you, here are those factors:
- Cleanse
- Exfoliate
- Nourish
- Hydrate
Glo Esthetics Treatment
After the first Glo Keravive treatment at Glo Esthetics, your scalp and hair will be in better shape. This treatment is made for all types of hair and skin. We suggest scheduling treatments at least every three months for the best results.
We’ll give you a topical HydraFacial Keravive Peptide Complex Spray to take home and instructions on how to care for your skin after the treatment. You must use the spray daily between treatments and 90 days after the last one.
So, What To Expect From This Therapy?
How you feel after surgery depends on how long and hard the operation was. Pain medication that your doctor has given you can help with any aching, tightness, or throbbing. If a bandage is used, it is usually taken off the next day.
You can gently wash your hair after surgery as soon as two days have passed. In a week to ten days, you will take the stitches out. Be sure to talk to your doctor about the possibility of swelling, bruising, and drainage.
Because hard work brings more blood to the scalp, which can make transplants or cuts bleed, your provider may tell you to avoid hard work and contact sports for at least three weeks. Some doctors also say you shouldn’t do anything sexually for at least ten days after surgery.
During the first month after surgery, your doctor will likely want to check on you more than once to ensure your wounds heal well. You should pay close attention to any advice you get at these follow-up visits.
Keeping Up With The Surgery
How soon you can return to your everyday life depends on how long, complex, and kind of surgery you had. After a few days, you might feel well enough to return to work and do everyday, light things again.
Many people who have had transplants (plugs or other grafts) are disappointed to find that their new hair falls out after surgery. You should know that this is normal and will almost always go away on its own.
After hair falls out, it will take another five to six weeks for hair growth to start again. About half an inch of growth should happen every month.
Tracking Your Progress
After your incisions have healed, you may need a touch-up surgery to make the results look more natural. This is sometimes done by blending, which means filling the hairline with a mix of mini-grafts, micro-grafts, and slit grafts.
Or, if you’ve had a flap procedure, you may still have a small bump on your scalp called a “dog ear.” After it has completely healed, your doctor can remove it surgically.
Most of the time, you should expect to need a touch-up procedure. Your surgeon can tell you how long your subsequent surgery will be.

If you are losing hair or getting thinner, there are ways to treat it. But no single treatment is guaranteed to work, and the costs can add up quickly, especially since hair loss treatments are rarely covered by insurance.
But if you’ve talked to your doctor about treatments or tried other common ways to get your hair to grow back and they didn’t work, you should look into a hair transplant. You can connect with our team and us here at Glo Esthetics to learn more about this therapy.
